Ben titled this one: "And so the cast out demons got their revenge"
Blue notes are from Mom's email, I think. Ben is responding to these "gentle prompts."

I decided to begin putting titles on my emails. Its more fun =)
Well, you did it again. Almost needed the Urim and Thummim to read your letter.
Funny you should mention that. I was reading in Ether this week.
Sinus Infection: Gone
Suit: Didn't sell it to Nico. Elder Hayes bought the suit for me two weeks ago and I paid him back from money I took out last week. also my shoes were resoled with real goma(rubber) they are heavier but they will last. with the rainy season coming it had to be done or I would have been sliding all over the sidewalks here because they are all ceramic or tile. I don't ask I just try not to fall. So Shoes and suit, bought and paid for. =)
Package: So I got the PACKAGE!!!! did you use gold pen to make clip art look like illuminated paintings? If so I approve of your actions wholeheartedly. So " AND, "yes, I got the package and opened it," " !!!!!! They opened it at customs, but Elder Law(the bolsero aka mailman) saw them and they didn't take anything out so we were safe. So I opened up the card and was pleased with the choice of the chicken. Then I opened the big old spongebob wrapped object. I am very happy with that album!!! Im gonna fill it up here real soon. Alyson´s notes were of course very Alyson.( =P when do I get to go to Hawaii?) This week I am going to make the brownies and put the candles in it and take it to my "mom´s" house for lunch on Thursday. Macaroni boxes. Those were probably the best macaroni gluing I have seen. very good. It seems to work very well for smuggling, i just hope no one uses it for bad things =P Anyway... All is well in package land. In fact I got two! Grandma and Pop sent me one from Dear Elder. I had Peanut butter, beef jerky, oreos, a yo yo, tic tacs(for after all the other foods) and an inflatable ball... Something to throw at my comp when he falls asleep studying? I dunno. Mini beach volleyball? alright.. I could probably give it to a kid here. Actually I will probably give it to Esteffania, shes 4 and very capricious, and loves to get things.... ok onwards. Basically all package things are good.
Mom: do you know who May Porter is? ask grandma...
Birthday and other accontecimientos: I had a great birthday because I was doing service all day. I had figured on doing some for Dario(who got baptized on Saturday) but at lunch on Wednesday I got asked to do some service in the morning for the Gudiño family. We tore down some shack thing that was used to store old car parts, and well they really just wanted an excuse to give me a cake. Oh well not gonna turn down cake. =) So I got me some cake, then went and helped Dario and Laura (she also got baptized Saturday) to sort garbage from reciclables. Great times there. Trash.. Random item that can be taken apart for recyclables? sweet.
Well finished up there at about 7 and went off to the Luna family. They were gonna give us pizza and have a noche de hogar. which was kinda weird since they are super inactivo. Well we got there and there was no pizza and we ended up giving the hermana a blessing of health and then we blessed the home. Well elder Hayes told the "whatever evil presence that is here, LEAVE NOW" through spiritual guidance. they were happy and we left. So we went and got Chori pan (its like a bratwurst sandwich only delicious) and had correlacion meeting with the ward mission leader. I ate alot and then had a stomachache in the morning of course. Bad. So I tried to get over it, and we had lunch at the pension. We had hot dogs. with mayonaise and bbq sauce, and just dumb stupidness. So at about 7 we leave from a great lesson with one of the 15 we found like 3 weeks ago, and I nearly died walking away from that house. I am going to be blunt and you will have to edit but I almost crapped my pants. The term explosive diarrhea comes to mind. I hold it in and get to the pension and had to go, and so did my comp. Apparently mayonaise is bad for you. It can in fact cause violent gastrointestinitis. So we spent all night with the barfing and the diarrhea. Fun fun fun. I finally got to bedish Satuarday morning at about 6:28 Needless to say we didnt leave right away, we almost didnt make it to the baptism. Thats right we were going to baptize them and everything and we didnt do it because we were sick. Well recent converts to the rescue. Nicolas(no he was not wearing my suit) borrowed my baptism pants and baptized not only Laura, and Dario, but also his son Exequiel. Hes way cool!!!! Anyway So we are still dying, but the ward came to the rescue along with my district leader who helped us get to the baptism and take care of ourselves. It was an interesting weekend. Well we got in trouble with all the mothers of the ward who told us not to eat crappy stuff just to be cheap. its not worth it and costs more in the end. So sunday morning we got to go to part of church but then Elder hayes still didnt feel good so we got to go to the hopsital instead of sacrament meeing. =O dont worry I am fine, and so is my comp now. They gave him pepto... except its a cream that you eat, instead of the good ol pink liquid.
Other demons cast out So we also taught a member who has the priesthood how to bless his home, because he had evil spirits from like january. I would tell you some of the stuff that went down but this cyber is charging us up the wazoo. anyways he got that done and was able to bless his daughter who is super catholic. Hes cool. but yeah now you know why the demons got their revenge.
Thank you so much for the package, pictures of the area and other moments to come soon.
Con Amor
Elder Ludlow
PS
More to do next week, we got some interesting things to take care of this week and the next one cuz pres of area mervyn arnold is coming. =)

I have had a great week. No nothing more. Its been about the same here. We are dying because it was really cold just like a week ago and now its SUPER hot. Its not gonna snow here but it snowed in the Sierras. Of course she did a good job, its Aly. [Alyson gave a talk in church on the importance of modesty] Actually had heard that one before, but its kinda awkward for the missionaries to teach the modesty part... We usually have an hermana or misionera teach something like that. Awesome though. glad to hear that the missionaries are working hard there. send it to me if you can. I can download it onto my comps MP3 or something. or I can read the lyrics. No package yet, still waiting. They can take a long time. the 6-10 days was probably just to get to Buenos Aires.

Yeah Pres. Salas is doing awesome here. I talked to him alot this week, but I will explain in a second why.
Yeah dont worry everything will be alright with the school. Its always going to be better than here. =P they go to school for like 3 hours and are way wiped after that. hahahaa
Haahahhaha they are silly little argentines. The new suit is really nice I promise.
No Pretty much retired old Ben. and now im Elder Ludlow. Ill be honest Im realizing how much I still have though from that office. If things dont get done, and like it was yesterday I dont accept excuses. I am gonna have to talk to the Bolsa guy because I have been trying to get bibles for investigators since May. I just dont deal with inadequacy. but I deal But yeah I do work and get things done. Still responding though.
Yeah just checked the money sitch. Im kinda sad that I have only five months left. The problem the missionaries are finding is that our assignacion isnt reaching. Its not just bad spending, its that 500 pesos(or 125 dollars) doesnt reach for a whole month. I have it figured on the system of how Wells Fargo works that you have to have your balance just right and know exactly what it is that you want to take out or you have to rack up fees to check your balance and to take out the money and to use a foreign atm and to use a non wells fargo atm. Its kind of rough. I am going to talk to Pres about getting more money for the missionaries. If we are stressed about money and how we will survive its hard to get good solikd work done and stay focused. I am trying hard, but I will be taking out a bit of money. The 2000 I have left gets me 5 more months. So I suppose I´ll see you all in January. =( no dont worry the Lord always provides.
Yes. that cake. Its a good one. If not brownie pudding too with vanilla ice cream.
I have lunch planned with my second mom and we are gonna have pizza and a FHE with an inactive hermana that night. I will be good I promise. I cant promise that I wont start feeling old hahahaha. Still looking for the package, and now I have to look for one from Grandma and Grandpa Staley too. Got a card from Grandma and Grandpa.
So this week was actually really good. We got out working and were plugging along. We did service at the house I told you about. Dario is a recycling guy. He recycles EVERYTHING. not even to be like hippie or anything its his job and he gets pretty good money for it. Yeah we were sorting plastics and cloths and taking apart old oil filters to recycle the sluminum and steel inside. Way fun. Well Dario is gonna get baptized this saturday along with his girlfriend Laura. Its weird to say girldfriend and boyfriend for them because they are 43(Dario) and 46(Laura). So yeah. We talked to President this week to find out about some doctrinal points for our investigators, and for some members here. He is super on top of things. Pres Olsen would be kind of like yeah whatever be obedient and youll figure it out. Pres Salas is very willing to help us and make sure we know what to do. We also got to talk to a member whos grandchildren are being possesed by the devil. Thats right we are gonna cast out demons this week. So ummm yeah. thats about it. Ill let you know how it goes. =)
Well gonna go get me some food and enjoy my pday.
Love you family. I will have tons to tell you this next week. Baptism and Birthday woooh.

[to Mom]

The youth just arent the same without Dad. When are they making him the young mens general president?
But seriously I think if everyone else camped like him the scouts would actually enjoy camping... ahahahaa. I want to do a little bit of that when I get back...
Oh Chef Stephen.... hahahahaha
Sounds likje they had fun

Yup. My week was the same time wise. I couldnt tell you where it all went. Last week honestly I had to tell President that we didnt think we were going to baptize this month. It was pretty sad, because they want everyone to commemorate the new month instead of transfer system by baptizing in each and every area. We werent very happy all day. then I got Cyber news, and while I know that everything was ok, it kind of bothered me. with Prop 8 and the whole Death thing... well we got back to the pension and I was pissed because everything had been going against the grain for a long while there. I had a sinus infection, I had not gotten the materials I needed from the bolsa for my investigators, and in our pension´s roof we found rats, and I left a water bottle filling. uggghhh. So I ranted and raved, for probably the first time since I got in the mish. So we sat in the pension for a bit. then we went to look for a remedy for the rat problem....ie a BB gun... dont judge me it was Elder Hayes Idea. so we left and I was still kind of pissed. We didnt find one, so we went to get angry ice cream. Well The guy behind the counter wanted to try his english, and I ended up giving him a Book of Mormon. It was the beginning of many other promptings to come this week. Well we went back to the pension and we were planning the next day and well we hear a knock on our door. We live above a family of members so they are the only ones that can knock. Well we answer and Hna Azcuy tells us. Elders I forgot to tell you, you need to call Hna Cabrera, she has a friend who wants to get baptized. *Jaw Drop* What!? Ok I think we can call her. We give her a call and its her friend Laura that wants to get baptized on the 21st. Well Laura had come to church and had listened to the missionaries before, but she also has a malignant brain tumor and told Hna Cabrera to do her temple work when she dies.... well why dont you just do it for yourself. So she called us and set up an appointment. So, amazing. She studied to be a nun before and understands like everything really easily. She seems to like me and my teaching mehod. I am used to letting the comp mayor talk more, and well Elder Hayes isnt talking. So I just talk. Dont get me wrong he speaks the language great, and has things to say, but he opens his mouth and its just nothing. and I cant really be stopped. So I was letting him talk and nothing was coming out of him, so I would come in again. Its really weird but its like I am here to teach her. Well her boyfriend Dario, hes way cool too. When they first listened to the missionaries he wanted to get baptized but didnt. So we met with them together last night, and we told him that he needs to get baptized with Laura. He wasnt sure about it and wanted to get his life and business in order first. but I felt like telling him so I did. I promised him that his life would stabilize before the 28th if he got baptized. He kinda was shocked but then Laura bumps in and says I knew there was a reason they moved me back to the 28th. Its so we can get baptized together. So amazing this pair. So yeah. thats been my week. oh and we found a family of like 12. 4 brothers and their esposas and a cousin and another cousin and the parents of the brothers. They are all interested. They are gonna get baptized. I am super caught up in the work. Its like keeping me going. I feel great in fact. Oh and today I bought a suit. Its a gray suit and it was about 50 bucks. 209 pesos. Its actually pretty good. I will get a picture with the camera when I get it. It should come this next week with the elders who are in their meeting, because bolsa didnt come today.
In Argentina weddings are done civilly, not by just anyone. you have to go to the courthouse si o si. No he hurt his back and legs (we gave him a blessing last night) and couldnt come on his moto or walking. =(

[Mom wanted to have the missionaries over for dinner on Ben's birthday, since she couldn't have the missionary of her choice there. So she asked him what we should eat for his birthday dinner] Yes. Deep Dark Chocolate Cake, or brownie pudding. and have Sarah make Milanesa [an Argentine dish that probably my favorite in the world. I made it for Ben before he left and now, he's hooked]. Its amazing and I will probably want it when I get back. You know what I want for my birthday. Give Jay my email and have him tell me how he felt after being baptized. I would love to get That for my birthday.
Well thats about all I gots to say
I love you all and cant wait for you to see my new suit. I will probably open it right away but wait for the wrapped part. =)
talk to you next week

August 9, 2010

[We had a couple of sudden deaths in our stake this week. The wife of our stake president passed away after a stroke, and a few days later, a former stake president had a sudden heart attack and passed away on the field of Dodgers Stadium during a church public relations affair.]

Well that was a big shock. Im like really in shock. Wow. Don Hawkins was a great man. I remember when he was our home teacher when I was like 9. =) Please send my love to them. The hawkins are of course Getting things done. There are few that can do it like them. Don´t tell me about Prop 8 please. Gay Marriage was legalized here in Argentina about a month ago and members ALWAYS watch the news at lunch(and its bad manners to turn it off) So they keep running news about the first gay wedding in each province. Not fun.
But on more fun notes. Yay Girls Camp. Thats cool that there was minimal to no drama. Of course Aly is the Warm fuzzie girl. Just keep the the shotgun nice and clean, cuz now the boys are going to start sniffing around. If they get this letter they should know that they should be more afraid of her than me. =P

Nico is without a job for now, but I could probably sell it to him at some point. Gonna give him a shirt so he can pass the sacrament this next week. I can pick up a goodish suit here for about 250-400 pesos. I will keep the gray suit and see about getting it altered. I have an ad at the Institute for outgoing missionaries. Im sure someone can buy it. I am going to say 700 pesos for the suit, and 300 for the jacket. Its a huge discout but its what I would feel comfortable charging. I am going to ask Pres. Salas what I should do. Hes argentine he should know.
Ok thats cool about the package. I will be sure to not unwrap it. Dont worry the mac and cheese works, Elder Hayes´ camera just got here today, so its fine.
Yeah So I am now with Elder Hayes of West Jordan, Utah. Hes kinda like a Utahan version of Landon Cooley, or at least know how to eat like him hahhaa. So I had fun at the beginning of the week as I had developed sinusitis(I think its a chronic thing that happens no matter what) and felt like my face was gonna fall off for 3 days. But then I got me some antibiotic which was 80 pesos and I felt better. We go to a hospital that is the general for the mission in centro. So we didnt have lunch and we were in the hospital for 5 hours. =P We decided what the hey lets go hit up the mall and get lunch. So we ate California Burrito. I forgot how good real tortillas are. hahahaha. So anyways. Elder Hayes loves Indiana Jones. Like he has a fedora and all the soundtracks. Its kind of funny. So we go about "hating snakes" and going left instead of right, and "making it up as we go" Well gotta get out of here. But Im gonna send that picture to P. Salas with my letter to him today =P

I love you all especially the Hawkins and the Paces.

[to Dad]

Hey all good here.
So about the suit. [if you look at the pictures from last week, you will see that the suit is HUGE on him because he's lost so much weight!] I lent it to the guy who got baptized this Saturday(because he wanted a suit to get married in) and it fits him better than it fits me. I have to get the pictures from Elder Machuca though. I cant get the jacket tailored, only the pants, which is why I was thinking about getting a new suit, by selling the one that is huge to Nico(the baptism) I figure I can justify it for my birthday. Let me know your thoughts.

Where is Cameron headed to? I dont remember theses things that well. No the missionaries are not trying to say something, its a pose. I think its supposed to make fun of male models or something *shrugs shoulders*

The Elders can even use it [English classes] to help find people. If they start teaching a free english class, people will come. promise ;)

Oh before I forget to say it:
Happy Birthday Alyson!!!!!!!!!!

So what are you gonna do with the house all to yourself Dad [while Mom and Alyson are at Girls' Camp]? I mean you will have it basically to yourself because Sarah just works, and sleeps according to her email.

Well here in Ayacuhco we had a Baptism, and transfers. Nicolas got married Friday and we had the baptism saturday with a wedding reception type party. We figured it would be like a wedding reception, but the Bishop decided to tone it down a bit, and we werent going to have cake or baloons or anything fun. It should be something small anyways, but you cant go without cake. We(Elder Machuca and I) were really worried about it. The ward is slightly, well they are interesting, and we had no idea what to expect. Will they come, will they not, who, will they bring things like they were asked to, will they not. We didnt worry too much, but we decided to buy a cake for them. Well we bought a cake, and one of the RS sisters made a cake, and the Pastry chef made a cake too. So it was really really funny when we showed up with our cake and there were 2 others. Yeah Nicolas is really well integrated now, and we played soccer with the young men and the elders quorum that night. Well Transfers came, I stayed and Elder Machuca left. And now my comp is Elder Hayes. Hes from West Jordan. Seems like fun. Its gonna be fun here and we are gonna work hard.
Well gotta get out of here and get to work.
love you Dad.
